At M31Global News, we bring you the latest updates on the internet’s most talked-about platforms. X, formerly known as Twitter, has recently made headlines by formally allowing adult content on its platform. This move comes as no surprise to many, as X has long been a hub for various NSFW (not safe for work) communities. Previously, while adult content wasn’t explicitly forbidden, it wasn’t officially sanctioned either.

Over the weekend, X revised its rules to clearly permit users to share adult and graphic content, with specific guidelines in place. Users can now post consensually-produced NSFW content, provided it is appropriately labeled. This includes both human-created and AI-generated videos and images.
This change aligns with X’s recent trajectory under Elon Musk’s leadership, where the platform has been exploring ways to integrate adult content within its communities. According to Xâs updated ‘adult content’ policy, the platform supports the creation, distribution, and consumption of sexual content, emphasizing that it should be consensually produced and distributed.
“Sexual expression, whether visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression,” states X’s policy page. “We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their beliefs, desires, and experiences, including those related to sexuality. However, we restrict exposure to adult content for children and adults who prefer not to see it.”
In addition to these new guidelines for adult content, X maintains strict rules against excessively violent material and content depicting sexual violence. The platform also continues to ban posts that explicitly threaten or glorify violence.

The primary reasons for permitting graphic content is to allow users to participate in discussions about current events, including sharing relevant images and videos. Users have the option to mark their posts as containing sensitive media, ensuring that only those over 18 or those who have provided their birth dates can view such content.
While X has never completely banned pornographic content, these new clauses pave the way for the platform to potentially develop new services centered around adult content, potentially positioning itself as a competitor to platforms like OnlyFans.
According to a Reuters report from 2022, about 13% of posts on X contained adult content, and this number appears to have increased since then, partly due to the increase of porn bots on the platform.
With this official policy change, regulators are likely to inspect X’s efforts to eliminate non-consensual porn and child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Last October, X faced a fine from Australia for failing to provide information about child abuse content. Around the same time, India also directed multiple social networks, including X, to remove CSAM from their platforms.
Stay tuned to M31Global News for further updates on how these new policies unfold and impact the digital landscape.
