With the U.S. presidential election almost wrapped up, it’s safe to say that “Sleepy Joe” can finally catch some well-deserved rest! Just last week it was a stroll on Delaware’s Rehoboth Beach with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, that once again threw President Joe Biden’s health into the spotlight. At age 81, Biden is, after all, one of the oldest presidents in U.S. history, so hardly surprising that a stroll on the beach was enough to send social media buzzing with related chatter.
Videos of the episode showed Biden stumbling a few times while navigating the sandy ground near his Delaware beach house. Jill Biden, the first lady, strolled beside him and offered a hand as needed. A sign of good or bad, the clips seemed to have roused mixed emotions from netizens, some expressing concern over the wellbeing of the presidential candidate, others making jokes that go with the political territory.
Despite all the comedy, the truth in that scene at the beach rings true just as much for world leaders. Viewing the video clip made me think that for his age, it is just to be experiencing problems with their bodies, particularly on sand-they are not exactly the most stable surfaces! What I see as important at this moment is that it just reminds us of the human aspect of our leaders. Wherever we agree or disagree with Biden’s policies, at M31GlobalNews, we respect elders and senior citizens, including Biden, who is surely older than most of us.

Days after the elections, when Vice President Kamala Harris lost to Donald Trump, Some speculate that Biden’s age and health may be challenging factors going forward. Online, reactions were mixed. One social media user expressed sympathy, saying, “I’m starting to feel sorry for the guy.” Another user humorously suggested wrapping Biden in “bubble wrap until Trump is sworn in,” reflecting how humor often softens public discussions around serious topics.
Yet a third user dared others to be more compassionate reminding them that growing old is just part of being. “If we happen to live till we grow old, we would like to do it gracefully,” they pointed out adding that we must face such moments with dignity, understanding, and respect.
This incident hardly has much bearing on Biden’s abilities. He may need a bit of help here and there, but do we not all need it at some point? It’s okay to have differences of opinion on his politics, but let’s remember that leaders, no matter how powerful they are, are human too. With aging comes its share of problems, and it’s well worth acknowledging that gracefully.
As the elections come to a close, the attention will soon turn from the campaign trail to what comes next for the United States.
